From the greatest band…probably their greatest song. This is Festival, from their upcoming live video and album. Enjoy and pre-order here if it strikes your fancy.
It’s almost that time of year. Christmas? No. The time of year where we have another baby. It seems to happen so frequently that I can refer to it on an annual basis (almost). In case you didn’t know we are having our first daughter (if all goes well) in September. I was beginning to think that we only produced boys, but the sonogram technician says we’re having a girl. Keeping with tradition I like to pick a song that fits with the image I have in my head of my unborn children. I first started this tradition with Seth four years ago when I picked Explosion In The Sky’s “The Only Moment We Were Alone” off of their 2004 album “The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place”. Not two years later, I picked a song for Joel. I thought Sigur Rós’ “Mílanó” off of their 2005 album “Takk…” fit him perfectly. I even fought to have Mílanó be his middle name for a while, but Marisela wouldn’t hear it. Now we come to my sweet Lydia Camille. I have chosen for her “Breathturn” by Hammock from their newest album “Chasing After Shadows… Living with the Ghosts” (which is, in my opinion the best album of the year so far). I have decided to post it here for your listening pleasure. I can’t wait to meet my Lydia and play this beautiful song for her.
LEGO strikes again. This amazing video show a working Babbage Difference Engine. This machine can evaluate polynomials of the form Ax^2 + Bx + C for x=0, 1, 2, …n with 3 digit results.
A new answer is produced every 20 turns of the crank: 10 turns of the crank adds the bottom two digit register into the middle two digit register. The next 10 turns of the crank adds the midlde two digit register into the top three digit accumulator, yielding the next result.
